Business Skills Training, mentorship and Coaching

Cereal Growers Association (CGA) is a national non-profit member-based farmer organization incorporated in August 1996, to bring cereal farmers together in addressing industry challenges in Kenya. CGA partnered with Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) to implement the project dubbed: “Scaling out Regenerative Agriculture through the Development of Pulse Value Chain in Makueni County” for the period July 2020 to September 2021. The proposed regenerative agriculture (RA) intervention aimed at improving food security and community resilience through adoption of conservation and rehabilitation approaches to food and farming systems among smallholder farmers. The project adopted an enhanced extension service delivery approach that utilizes the Sustainable Village Based Advisor (VBA) Business Model.

Achievements

Developed a rural based business skills training materials leveraging on village based approaches to train and equip 110 Village based agriprenuers with business skills.

  • Developed a business skills Digital mobile App that maps out the VBA entrepreneurial journey in a digital format to enable the VBA record his daily business transactions and provide commercial dashboard of his business performance.
  • Provided individual and group mentorship sessions that promoted peer learning and exchange
  • VBAs were supported with personalized coaching from local business mentors and supported with relevant linkages and networks
  • VBAs were issued with simplified training guide books which outlined application exercises to assist VBAs in the application of the business skills into commercial practice.
